Quick guide to home maintenance

Maintaining a home can be overwhelming unless you do specific things at certain times. Here is a quick guide to home maintenance.

· Washing machine hoses/connections – check twice a year for cracks and drips.

· Dryer exhaust vent- check yearly connections for blockages and clean out lint monthly.

· Check every six months caulk at kitchen and bath countertops

· Check every 3 months for caulk area at base of bathtubs and showers.

· Check exterior caulking at windows, skylights, and siding gaps yearly.

· Adjust exterior door weatherstripping every spring and fall.

· Use Lemon Pledge on patio doors, interior hinges and windows as needed.

· Check garage panels for screws that need tightening every six months.

· Test smoke detectors monthly and replace batteries every year.

· Adjust humidifier setting spring and fall and replace filter once a year.

· Have your HVAC checked and tuned up yearly by a HVAC professional.

· Test pump every spring to make sure pump engages.

· Replace furnace filters once a month with cheap filters you can buy by the box.

· Winterize your sprinkling system in the fall.

· Winterize outside faucets every fall.

· Cover top half of the AC unit in the fall and turn off breaker then to AC.

· Remove window screens in the fall and add them in the spring.

Follow that checklist and you will have less issues and live in a more comfortable, efficient, and safe home!
