Is your house ready for winter?

Is your house ready for winter?

Once the snow has fallen and will be here for the entire winter season what can you still do?

Here is a list of things that are still important.

  • Winterize your lawn mower. That means burning off all the gas currently in the mower and turning off the gas valve to the engine. This will ensure your mower is ready for next year.
  • Have you furnace cleaned and given a tune up. It will give your furnace extra life and improve efficiency.
  • Check seals on your windows to be sure cold air is not coming in. If there is some you will need some foam or plastic window cover to take care of the problem.
  • Have you chimney checked before you use it if you have a wood burning fireplace.
  • Use garage door hinge lubricant to improve movement of the door during the cold winter.
  • Have environmentally friendly salt ready for your steps and driveway in case we get an ice storm.
  • Check vents in the house to make sure they are free of debris and dust.
  • Program your thermostat to reflect the winter season needs.
  • Cover the top of your AC unit.
  • Check your dryer vent to make sure it is free of dust.
  • Blend your outside spigot lines to prevent freezing.

And enjoy this wonderful winter season in Minnesota!
