What types of homes still sell well in the winter?

The winter months in Minnesota can bring loads of snow and cold temperatures. So, are any types of homes not able to sell and what categories still sell well?

Homes that still sell well in the winter.

In the winter, our inventory normally decreases as some do not want to move in the cold and possible snowy conditions. For many buyers this is a perfect time to buy since they have less competition and much less chance of multiple offers. Those homes that still sell well in the winter are condominiums, townhomes, and most single-family homes. Those are homes that buyers are less concerned about the land or the land itself and can still get an inspection and good evaluation of the homes condition.

What homes do not sell as well in the winter?

It is difficult to sell a lake home in the winter. The beach and lake quality are particularly important considerations for a buyer and if that is not visible it creates an issue of confidence. Also, farms with acreage have the same concerns…difficult to buy unless you can see the quality and usefulness of the land.

How busy is real estate in the winter and when does the spring season start?

We are still surprising busy in the winter. We do slow down around the holidays and our slowest time is Christmas through January. Then it gets crazy busy again right after the Superbowl on February 1st as that is the start of our spring real estate season!
