The History of Shakopee Minnesota

Shakopee began as a trading city in the 19th century. Murphy’s landing was the center of commerce exchange between rail and the river barges. Shakopee became much more accessible when Highway 169 was realigned. It then also benefited from the new Bloomington ferry bridge. It made easy access to Highway 494 and Minneapolis.

Is Shakopee Minnesota rated as a good place to live?

We now find this quaint river city to be in demand.  It was rated the 10th best city in Minnesota for Young families by NerdWallet. In addition, Niche.com  rated Shakopee with an overall A- .

Some general information I have found about Shakopee.

The population of Shakopee is 40,024. I have always enjoyed the wonderful downtown with all its charm. In addition, this is a river town is located on the Minnesota River. I have found the commute of 25 miles to Minneapolis to take about 34 minutes. What else did I find? The median home price is $269,000. Median income is $79,670. Average age is 33.2. Unemployment rate is very low at 2.4%. Lastly, Shakopee has appreciated 5.8% over the last year.

How are the schools in Shakopee?

Shakopee is proudly serviced by the Independent School District 720. It features 14 schools and 8,223 students. We have complied information on this school district. Fun things to do in Shakopee?

I’m going to talk about two of my favorites.

The first is Canterbury Park. Formerly Canterbury Downs. It is a racetrack with 70 racing days. The calendar is from May to mid-September. It also has gambling with poker and game tables. I have enjoyed the racing and wonderful food on many an occasion.

The second is Valley Fair. It is a 125 acre amusement park. Opened in 1976. It has grown to 75 rides and 8 rollercoasters. It also has a large water park called Soak City. Both are included in the price of admission. The fall season has Valleyscare. It is a haunted house Halloween experience with all the rides and fun!

My conclusion

To summarize, I have found that Shakopee, Minnesota has lots of charm, a great downtown, great schools and plenty of fun things to do!  In other words, I suggest considering Shakopee if you’re planning on moving to the Minneapolis and St Paul areas of Minnesota.
