Review of The Kenwood Minneapolis

The Kenwood Restaurant https://www.thekenwoodrestaurant.com/ is located near Bde Maka Ska/Lake of the Isles at 2115 W 21st Street in Minneapolis Minnesota. They are open Tuesday to Friday from 11am to 2pm for lunch and dinner from 5-9pm, then brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30am to 2pm.

The Kenwood Minneapolis

This is what they say about themselves…Since opening in 2012, The Kenwood has built a reputation for serving adventurous, international dishes with fresh, regional ingredients under Minneapolis chef/owner Joel DeBilzan. Known for our evolving seasonal menu that specializes in fresh pasta dishes, our 75-seat restaurant has an upscale feel with an approachability that keeps guests coming back.

One interesting note…They charge a surcharge on every ticket so menu prices are actually 10 percent higher. I find this odd and misleading. Here is what they say on their website…All tickets at The Kenwood Restaurant will include a 10% surcharge. While a portion of this may be used to compensate the restaurant’s employees this service charge is not the property of the employees.

Here is the menu https://www.thekenwoodrestaurant.com/menu/ and here is what we enjoyed…

  • Banana bread with whipped butter – this was wonderful and a must have!
  • Avocado toast – with poached egg and pickled onions. This was disappointing and bland. Would never order it again.
  • Focaccia Benedict – with house made porchetta (bacon) and was under cooked and not editable, the chili hollandaise was nice but skimpy amount of it and one small porched egg. Would not order this again either.
  • Fresh squeezed orange juice – delicious!

Jen was our server and was very nice and friendly.  What I enjoyed was the banana bread and juice…two main dished were not good, disappointing. Maybe the weekend brunch is better, but I will not be going back.  I give it one star * out of five. Suggest you go somewhere else. One positive note is that during the week you can sit outside with your dog on the front patio.
