Stillwater www.stillwatermn.gov is in Minnesota, the county seat of Washington County. Stillwater is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and on the west bank of the St. Croix River. It was home to the Dakota and Ojibwe people. In 1837 a treaty was signed to allow a settlement along the St. Croix River. The settlement was then founded in 1843 and is one of Minnesota’s oldest cities. It is often called the “birthplace of Minnesota.”
