Review of Gai Noi in Minneapolis
Gai Noi https://www.gainoimpls.com/ is located in Minneapolis at 1610 Harmon Place and overlooks Loring Park. Gai Noi is short for Khao gai noi which is a short grain from the northern Xieng Khouang regions of Laos. This is where chef Ann and her family are from. Gai Noi says on their website that they hope to be a binding agent for the community and connection to a heritage, culture, and lifestyle worlds apart from our own; a place to gather, share, celebrate, and nourish, coming as you are and being welcomed as luk khao niew.
Gai Noi is open Monday to Sunday from 11am to 10pm and does not accept reservations. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated even though they were very busy on a Tuesday night. They were pleasant at the front podium and texted us when the table was ready.
We ate on the upper patio that overlooks Loring Park and it was a beautiful evening.

Here are those we shared and liked very much…
• Jalapeno Wontons – cream cheese and roasted jalapenos and served with a pineapple sauce. Really good and not too spicy.
• Calamari – Lightly battered, with Thai basil and jalapenos and served with spicy mayo. Super tender and oh so good!
• Watermelon & Shrimp – really nice to compliment the other appetizers to give us alternative tastes.
• Green Papaya salad – green papaya with spicy fish sauce and served with sticky rice. Never had this before and loved it.
• Seasoned fried beef – cooked with sawgrass and had it with sticky rice. I will order this over and over!
The prices are super reasonable, and the quality was great. Service was attentive even though we were on a patio. Just a wonderful experience! I give it five stars ***** out of five!
