Restaurant review for Meritage in Saint Paul

The Meritage in Saint Paul is flat out one of my favorite restaurants. It is in downtown Saint Paul close to the Excel Center and the Ordway. Located at 410 Saint Peter Street. Established by the husband-and-wife team of Russel & Desta Klein in 2007. Known for its service and excellence. I have found the European style food to be on pair with things I have tasted throughout the United States and the world.

What is the building like?

The Meritage is in the historic Hamm Building in the heart of downtown Saint Paul. The Hamm Building was built in 1919. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Capital Theatre was built into the Hamm Building, and it was the largest, most costly, and most elaborate movie palace in the Upper Midwest.

Meal review

I love the classically French kitchen. They have seasonal features. We stepped out of our comfort zone and tried the Chef’s five course tasting menu. It started with a light mussel soup, then a Lobster creation that was amazing, then a wonderful Mahi-Mahi fish, then a delicious chicken and duck dish, and the last entrée was a prime rib steal with a twice baked potato. Lastly, a desert I cannot even describe other than to say my wife and I are still talking about how good it was.

This is not a big restaurant…it is charming, elegant, beautiful, and cozy. Very much like a restaurant found in France. And it offers an oyster bar with a wonderful selection of east and west coast oysters!

I give it ***** five stars! I will love it.
