The History of Minnetonka

Minnetonka is a city in Hennepin county, Minnesota https://www.minnetonkamn.gov/ .  Minnetonka is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. It is a second-tier suburb.

Was home to the Dakota and Ojibwe Native American tribes before the Euro-Americans arrived in the 1800’s. The natives believed the Lake Minnetonka area sacred. The name came from “mni” meaning water and “tanka” meaning big. In 1851 the Dakota sold the area around Minnetonka to the United States with the Treat of Traverse des Sioux. By the 1880’s the area had train service and 1905 it had streetcar service.

Minnetonka has only a commute time to Minneapolis of 21 minutes. And 35 minutes to the Minneapolis/St Paul International Airport. Next, it has a population of 52,102. It features many excellent parks and trails. It has 90 miles of running, biking, and walking trails. The unemployment rate is only 2.3%. And the median home price is $340,000. Meanwhile the median age is 44.8 years old. Lastly, the median income is $80,068. Has easy access to Highway 494.

Some special features of Minnetonka

Is home to Lake Minnetonka, which is one of the largest lakes in Minnetonka. It is the ninth largest lake in Minnesota. And is 14,528 acres and is popular with boaters, sailors, and fishermen. It is the headquarters of the Carlson Companies and Cargill. Cargill is the largest privately held company in the United States. Also, home to UnitedHealth Group.

Minnetonka has three highly rated school districts.

My conclusion

 

To summarize, I have found Minnetonka to be a highly popular city. Importantly, it features highly rated schools and a very convenient location. In addition, it has lots of parks, trails, and community activities. Also, has probably the most popular Lake in Minnesota that is conveniently located near Minneapolis/St Paul. It is a highly rated city with an A+ rating. In short, I strongly suggest considering Minnetonka if you are planning on moving to the Twin Cities of Minnesota.
