Started as a settlement in 1840 by the French Canadians. First farm came in 1842. Ferry service to Lakeland began in 1848. By 1858 there were 14 stores, hotels, shops and dwellings. In 1951 the village of Lakeland was incorporated.

Importantly, has a wonderful and historic downtown, located on the Mississippi River, has highly rated schools, known for its health and safety, an abundance of recreation, low crime, has low crime, rural feel but near to Minneapolis and Saint Paul and suburbs and features a high quality of life. In short, I suggest considering Lakeland if you are planning to move to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
