Hastings Minnesota is in Dakota and Washington County in the State of Minnesota. It is a city just outside the third-tier suburbs of St. Paul. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area that has 3.52 million residents.

First settled by a military detachment sent from Fort Snelling in 1820. In 1833 a trading post opened there. After the Treaty of Mendota of 1851, the area opened for white settlement. Incorporated as a city in 1857. That was a year before Minnesota joined the Union. It is the county seat for Dakota County.

Hastings is a river city and has a wonderful historic downtown on the river and a VFW with the best views of any VFW in the State of Minnesota.

My conclusion

To summarize, I have found Hastings to be a popular city. Importantly, has a wonderful and historic downtown, located on the St. Croix River, highly rated schools, known for its health and safety, an abundance of parks and recreation, low crime, a younger population, rural feel but near to Minneapolis and Saint Paul and suburbs and features a high quality of life. In short, I suggest considering Hastings if you are planning to move to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
