Faribault Minnesota is in Rice County in Minnesota. It is also the county seat of Rice County. It is 50 miles south of The Twin Cities. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area that has 3.52 million residents. Faribault is located at the confluence of the Cannon and Straight Rivers.

Faribault is one of the most historic communities in Minnesota. It had settlements and commercial activity predating Minnesota’s establishment as a U.S. Territory. It was originally occupied by the Dakotah and Wahpekute bands tribes but was given out by the Ojibwe.

It was named after Jean-Baptiste Faribault who was married to a Dahotah woman – Pelagie Linzie Haines. His mastery of the Indian languages and his good relationship with them helped ensure the safe travel for settlers and success of the trading post. The Dakota called the trading post “Adek” for Alex (Alexander Faribault).

Elko was originally a railway village in 1858. The merger of Elko and New Market was done in 2007.

My conclusion

To summarize, I have found Faribault to be a popular city. Importantly, a rural feel, it is rich in history, has a wonderful downtown, has lots of parks, rivers and lakes, high marks for safety and low crime and features a high quality of life. In short, I suggest considering Faribault if you are planning on moving to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
