Luverne has a rich tradition of success in academics, arts, and athletics. The School District of Luverne has tremendous support as exhibited by the recent passage of two bond referendum questions to improve the school facilities. Over the next two years, the Middle School/High School building will see a tremendous transformation and a new commons/cafeteria and state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center. The total investment from the District taxpayers is $31 million. The project is slated to begin in September 2018. Luverne consistently graduates over 95% of seniors and boasts the highest ACT scores in Southwest Minnesota. Our staff and faculty work hard to provide excellent learning opportunities for all students and challenge them to Be Great! Luverne offers concurrent enrollment courses for high school students and several career and technical opportunities as well. The partnerships we have with Minnesota West and Southwest Minnesota State University allow Luverne to help young adults to foster their love of learning and provide a possible pathway to future education beyond high school.
Luverne Elementary uses Response to Intervention (RTI), Title I, SOARR, and many other avenues to provide assistance to all students in their quest for learning. The District has invested in technology and provides numerous opportunities for the students to engage in the latest technology innovation. The District has a full-time technology integrationist on staff to assist faculty and make technology “come alive” for students of all ages.
Luverne’s special education department is a comprehensive program for all students with disabilities. The special education department is a beacon for Southwest Minnesota. Many area schools model their programs after our program. Luverne is proud of the dedicated faculty and staff supporting our students in this program.
The Athletic and Fine Arts programs are superb! Luverne boasts of great success in all athletic areas with many state tournament teams and individuals. Recent success has been in Cross-Country, Track, and Hockey. The shining stars in the Fine Arts program have been Mock Trial and Speech.
Luverne also has tremendous music programs and hosts the Tri-State Band Festival on the last Saturday in September. This annual event draws hundreds of people from the tri-state area looking to support the many fine musicians on display. The band festival started nearly 70 years ago.
