Welcome to the Dover-Eyota School District website. I am Michael Carolan and I am honored to say that I represent this great school district as the Superintendent of Schools.
I believe that every student deserves to have a quality education. To that end, in the Dover-Eyota Schools, our students have many opportunities to explore their interests and talents in an environment that supports a growth mindset for both students and staff. We offer a challenging curriculum, as well as a wide variety of extracurricular and athletic options. We have wonderful K-12 music and arts programs that provide well-rounded learning experiences for our students.
People make the difference. We have terrific students and an excellent staff that is second to none. We enjoy strong family and community partnerships, which is evident by their involvement in our school activities. They have also supported the renovation of the facilities where we teach, learn, and play. Our school board is well informed, and they provide oversight on our operations, supporting innovation and growth along with fiscally responsible decision making. At the present time, we are in the process of developing our strategic plan to provide for focused professional development for our staff. We are also exploring strategies that will prepare our students with the college and career readiness skills to be successful in their post-secondary studies and future careers.
To share a little about my background, I had my initial training as a teacher in special education at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on cognitive and emotional disabilities. My teaching certification allowed me to work in a variety of settings. I have worked in both the private and public sector as a special education teacher at the junior and senior high school level. After I completed my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at U-W Milwaukee, I went on to become an Assistant Principal at Cudahy Middle School and Cudahy High School. I then became the Principal of Lincoln Elementary School in Cudahy for ten years and the Principal of Cudahy Middle School for eight years. I completed my Specialist Certificate program in the Superintendency at U-W Milwaukee prior to coming to the Dover-Eyota School District.
My wife Karen recently retired from being a Speech and Language Pathologist. We have three grown children and two amazing grandchildren. Our two sons live and work in Minnesota. Jake is a middle school special education teacher and Ben works as a clinical lab scientist at Mayo Clinic. He also volunteers as an EMT for the Eyota Ambulance crew. Our daughter Molly is completing school at Alverno College, and plans to teach English as a second language internationally.
