Dr. Jeff Pesta has assumed duties as the Superintendent of the Deer River Public Schools effective July 1, 2020. Jeff has 29 years of experience in public education, including 24 years as a school administrator. He has previously served as Superintendent of the Kenyon-Wanamingo and Hastings Public Schools. During his career, his administrative peers have recognized him as a Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals Principal of the Year, Minnesota Association of School Administrators Richard Green Scholar and Administrator of Excellence. Jeff is currently participating in the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent certification cohort.
Prior to entering the education field, Dr. Pesta served in the U.S. Army. In addition to teaching science and graduate courses for aspiring administrators, he has also worked as a biologist for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the Minnesota Zoo. His areas of research expertise are North Pacific Fisheries and Minnesota-Mexico transnational communities. Jeff earned his Ed.D. in School Leadership at the University of St. Thomas. He also earned a M.Ed. in Science Education from the University of Minnesota and Biology, Business Administration, and School Administration degrees from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Jeff and his wife are proud parents of two adult children. They are currently enjoying life at their new home in beautiful Deer River! |
