What to do to prepare your home and yard for extreme heat

This summer is one of higher-than-normal temperatures…so what should you do?

Here are suggestions for outside and inside your home.

Outside to do list

  • Have the length of your grass longer to help to endure the heat.
  • Water your lawn early in the morning.
  • Water your bushes and outside plants.
  • Clean your AC unit and have it tuned up.

Inside to do list

  • Keep blinds, drapes, and shades completely shut during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Change your furnace filter.
  • Reprogram your thermostat for summer conditions.
  • Close blinds before the sun hits the windows.
  • Avoid using the oven or stove during the day; consider using a microwave, eating cold meals, or cooking outdoors.
  • Switch off unnecessary lights and electronics that radiate excess heat.
  • Open windows only during the early morning and late evening when the outside temperature is cooler than inside of your home.

I hope you find this helpful and stay cool and safe.
