The city of Wayzata – is located in Hennepin County, Minnesota. It is in the western part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metro area. Which is known as the “The Twin Cities” and is the 16th largest metropolitan area in the United States with 3.6 million people. It is located 11 miles west of Minneapolis and has a population of almost 5,000 people. The name Wayzata is derived from a Lakota Sioux phrase meaning “North Shore”. Wayzata is situated on the shores of Lake Minnetonka and is a very popular tourist destination.

 

When the railroad reached Wayzata prior to the civil war the city was a vacation destination for people from all over the world. An estimated 20,000 visited the area to vacation each year. Then in the 1920’s and 1930’s the area moved toward a more residential community as “cottages” ( some were actually mansions) were built and the weekends brought many for summer lake enjoyment.

 

The Wayzata Beach is located in downtown Wayzata on Lake Minnetonka. The beach is open to the public and has a permit and non-permit parking. There is a lifeguard on duty from mid-June to mid-August.

 

Wayzata Public School District 284 – is nationally known as one of the finest school districts in the United States. Has 17 total schools and 10,958 students. Rated best school district in Minnesota and best school district for athletics by 2019 Niche.
