Visit Lake Superior Railroad Museum

Let me tell you about it.

This is something a visited with both my children. The Lake Superior Railroad Museum. is a real treasure! It is well worth the drive. The museum is in downtown Duluth. You can take the train from the Twin Cities to see it. It is on the original platforms at the yard of the Historic Union Depot that was built in 1892. It has many immaculately restores locomotives and is a step back in time.

When is it open?

The railroad Museum will be open 7 days a week starting April 1st. This follows being shut down 5 months due to the pandemic. It is open 10am to 5pm. Admission is only $12 for adults and $6 for kids. Train excursions will start May 21st. How fun to take a trip through Duluth to Canal Park and along the shore of Lake Superior and into the majestic North woods. All trips are fully narrated.

What trains are there?

Here is a link to the inventory. My favorites are the steam locomotives. Of all on display the think the steam locomotive 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type built in 1941 is the most impressive and majestic.

Address is 506 W. Michigan Street, Duluth, MN 55805. Telephone number is 218-727-8025.

This is a hidden gem and well worth the train ride or car ride to get there!

Next week we will talk about another aspect of what is great in Minnesota.

Honestly if you cannot find something fun to do in the State of Minnesota all year long…then you are not looking!
