Top 8 Tips for Selling Your Home

Want to sell your home but you don’t know where to start exactly? Well, it may take a little work but it certainly will be worth it in the long run! Here are some pre-sale preparation tips to get you started!

Good sign for buyers

1. Hire an excellent real estate agent.

Your realtor may have years or decades of experience in the home-selling process, so don’t shy away from asking for guidance. They can tell you what buyers look for in your particular neighborhood and price point, so it’s a good idea to take their advice on improving your home’s exterior appearance and the interior presentation.

2. Curb appeal.

The first thing a prospective buyer is going to notice about your home is the curb appearance. Keep your yard fresh looking by keeping the grass cut regularly, plant some perennials or annuals, and freshen up your front door with some paint and new hardware. You might also want to consider updating your mailbox if it’s a little sad looking. Fix windows and screens if needed, and replace your doorbell if it’s not functioning properly.

3. Declutter, clean, and organize.

Removing clutter and organizing your home so its living its best life is very important so potential buyers aren’t distracted when they’re walking through your home. It also helps give you a head start on packing! Cleanliness implies a home has been well-cared for and can win points with buyers. You may want to consider shampooing the carpets to give an even fresher look.

4. Depersonalize your home.

Depersonalizing your home allows buyers to envision themselves living there. Remove family photos, personal decorations, toys, and any other effects that aren’t neutral in décor.

5. Repaint walls to a neutral tone.

If your walls are dark or are a bit eccentric, that could prevent an offer being made on your home as some buyers can have a hard time looking past paint colors. Dark walls can make rooms appear smaller than they are, so you may want to consider choosing neutral tones and repaint – it goes a long way!

6. Make minor repairs if necessary.

Is the caulking a bit iffy in the kitchen or bathroom? Do you have loose door handles or a broken screen door? Are your curtain rods or window treatments a little drab? Is your cabinetry really dated? You may want to consider making these repairs and/or repainting the cabinetry, as it can be fairly inexpensive but will pack the most punch when it comes to listing your home for sale.

7. Update lighting.

If you have some outdated lighting in the kitchen and bathroom, it’s easy to replace them and will complement the other updates you’ve made to your home, giving a polished and fresh look.

8. Add indoor plants or flowers.

Add some plants in your living room and get a bouquet of flowers for your dining room table. Not only are they inviting, it also helps clean the air in your home! Best choices for indoor plants? Fiddle leaf fig, African violets, jade plant, calathea, and ZZ plant all look stunning.
