Sakura in downtown St. Paul is located at 350 Saint Peter Street. They are open Monday to Thursday from 4pm to 9pm and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 to 9pm and Sunday 11:30 to 8pm. They accept reservations, you can call 651-224-0185. Their website is https://www.sakurastpaul.com/

I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years, and they used to have authentic floor seating that I miss but understand why they would discontinue that. The interior is inviting but has become a little tired and could use an updating. The bathroom was clean but very outdated.

Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Food was very quick and beautifully prepared.

The menus for lunch and dinner are located on the front page of the website. The website also has pictures of some of their wonderful dishes.

Here is what I had to eat…

• Lobster roll appetizer – This was particularly good and on value priced during happy hour at $8.00.

• Miso soup – comes with your meal and this is the best I have ever had.

• Sakura Sushi – Fresh fish roll and 8 pcs of nigiri. Chef’s choice. Priced at $28.00. It was excellent and a real value.

• Chirashi sushi – 12 pcs of Chef’s choice sashimi on a bed of sushi rice or on the side. Wonderful selection and impressive quality. Priced at $28.00.

• Tempura ice cream – Deep-fried ice cream. We had vanilla. Wonderful! Priced at $8.50.

• Mochi ice cream – Sweet rice with ice cream filling. We had green tea. I love this! Priced at $6.00.

I give it 4.5 stars out of five. The service was excellent, and food was so fresh and wonderful. The only reason it would not get a 5-star rating is that it is due for a remodeling. This is a real authentic Japanese food experience, and it is a real value! I will go there again!
