A Bit of Plymouth History
Plymouth’s origin dates back to 1855 on the northwest shores of what is now known as Parkers Lake. A gristmill and other structures were built in the area. In the spring of 1857, when Parkers Lake flooded, the mill was taken down and moved to Freeport, Minnesota. Freeport is now called Wayzata. (insert Wayzata link)
School Districts
Schools are a priority to the Plymouth community and quality of life. Plymouth residents are served by four highly regarded public school districts. The western and southern areas are served by Wayzata Schools. All of the schools of Wayzata School District #284, with one exception, are located in Plymouth. Robbinsdale Schools District #281 serves the east-central area of Plymouth. Osseo District #279 includes the northeast area and Hopkins School District #270 includes the southeast corner of Plymouth.
Parks and Trails
The lakes and rolling terrain, in Plymouth, provide a picturesque backdrop for one of the nation’s premier park systems. It includes 173 miles of city, state and regional trails and 1,728 acres of park land. Plymouth is committed to providing high quality park and open space systems that offer a balance of active and passive recreational opportunities.
The city of Plymouth also owns and operates the Plymouth Ice Center, located at 3650 Plymouth Blvd. Featuring 3 professional, the arena is utilized for recreational activities, open skate, home games played by Wayzata High School and Providence Academy. The facility, public-private collaboration, is the first of its kind.
